About me

Stuart with MiloHello! Yes, that's me, Stuart Dalby, pictured with my brother Richard's dog, Milo, in the woods above Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, USA in January of this year. A little while later, we lost Milo for about 2 hours after he decided to follow another walker walking in the opposite direction!

Born in 1969 I was the last attempt by my parents, Jean and Norman, to have a little girl. Fortunately, I don't think they were too disappointed. I have two elder brothers, Richard and Anthony.

I was brought up in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK. We lived in Lidget Green until the mid 1980's when my parents moved to Allerton. My dad still lives there today. Unfortunately my mother died of cancer in August 2000.

I attended Lidget Green First School, Lidget Green Middle School (which has now been demolished) and then The Grange Upper School (now Grange Technology College) before completing a 4 year Computer Systems and Software Engineering degree course at The University of York.

About a year after leaving university I managed to buy my first house in Rossendale, Lancashire. I spent most of the next 8 years renovating it but am very happy with the way it it turned out.

When I wasn't renovating my first house, I used to enjoy learning to fly microlight airplanes. I bought my own plane and after 2½ years of trying, finally obtained my Microlight Private Pilots Licence in August 2002. Unfortunately, once I had obtained my licence, circumstances meant I never flew again and I eventually sold my plane.

In August 2002 I bought my second, current house in York. I live there with Mittens. My hobbies include DIY, gardening, cooking, walking, cycling and keeping fit.

My career so far

ALSTOM   I was sponsored throughout university by GEC General Signal Ltd (which became part of the ALSTOM group) and so when I finished my degree I went to work for them as a Graduate Research & Development engineer at their Trafford Park, Manchester site. I worked there for 3 years before leaving in 1996.

In November 1996 I joined Radan Computational Ltd at their Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire office as a Software Developer working within a small team developing a new product called e2i. I left in 2003.   RADAN

TietoEnator   The start of 2004 saw me joining TietoEnator at their Dunstable office as a Systems Developer. In November 2004 I relocated to their Sheffield Office and by the start of 2007 I relocated again, this time to their Leeds Office - much closer to home. I left TietoEnator at the end of 2007.

I am currently enjoying a bit of break from full-time employment and looking into the possibility of trying a few different types of work. I still continue to run my own web site design and services company called RADOX Web Page Design.   RADOX Web Page Design
