Why being considerate is good for you

There are some situations where you can improve the safety of your driving whilst at the same time being considerate to other road users.

A good example is when you are driving along a road approaching a side road into which you want to turn and there is another vehicle coming from the opposite direction also wanting to turn into the same side road. What often happens is you are keen to turn into the side road first so you can beat the other vehicle. You might be successful, or the other car might beat you to it, perhaps even leaving it quite late and turning right uncomfortably close ahead of you. Wouldn't it be better to anticipate that they might want to go first, perhaps even slow down a little more than you would otherwise to subliminarily encourage them to go first, thereby preventing a close encounter and showing a little bit of sensible (and not bad) courtesy!
