Live and Let Live

Lots of people get stressed when driving. Perhaps they avoid certain roads and junctions or try to avoid driving at certain times of the day. It doesn't have to be like that.

I think the problem is that so many people think that there are so many bad drivers out there, that it is out of their control whether or not they will have an accident.

I often hear other people tell me how bad their recent car journey was. "This guy just moved straight out into my lane on the roundabout leaving me no-where to go! He could have killed me!" and "There were some right speed merchants on that stretch of road".

The trick is to, whilst always being aware of other peoples' driving, concentrate just on your own. And try not to be too judgemental of other people's mistakes. I mean, have YOU never made a mistake whilst driving? I bet you have. But you didn't do it on purpose right? Do you think that the other drivers around you would know that or would you just be another of those careless drivers?

We all make mistakes and we cannot control how other drivers will react to them. But we can control how we react when we see other drivers make a mistake. If you made a mistake which was honestly your fault, wouldn't you prefer the other drivers to think, "OK. They made a mistake. They're only human after all" and think no more about it. Or would you prefer them to get really aggitated and start cursing everyone and get stressed out? So if you assume that you'll get this kind of "let-off", why not do the same the next time you are at the receiving end?
