About me

Born in 1969, I was the last attempt by my parents, Jean and Norman, to have a little girl. Fortunately, I don't think they were too disappointed. I have two elder brothers, Richard and Anthony.

I was brought up in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK. We lived in Lidget Green until the mid 1980's when my parents moved to Allerton. My dad lived there up until 2010. My mother died of cancer in August 2000.

I attended Lidget Green First School, Lidget Green Middle School (which has now been demolished) and then The Grange Upper School (now Grange Technology College) before completing a 4 year Computer Systems and Software Engineering degree course at The University of York.

About a year after leaving university I bought my first house in Rossendale, Lancashire. I spent most of the next 8 years renovating it.

When I wasn't renovating my first house, I used to enjoy learning to fly microlight airplanes. I bought my own plane and after 2.5 years of trying, finally obtained my Microlight Private Pilots Licence in August 2002. Unfortunately, once I had obtained my licence, a change in circumstances meant I never flew again and I eventually sold my plane.

In August 2002 I bought my second house, in York, North Yorkshire where I live today.

My interests include walking, cycling, gardening, technology, cars, cooking, DIY and trying to maintain a healthy and stress-free lifestyle.

My career so far

ALSTOMI was sponsored throughout university by GEC General Signal Ltd (which became part of the ALSTOM group) and so when I finished my degree I went to work for them as a Graduate Research & Development engineer at their Trafford Park, Manchester site. I worked there for 3 years before leaving in 1996.

RADANIn November 1996 I joined Radan Computational Ltd at their Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire office as a Software Developer working within a small team developing a product called e2i. e2i (Estimate to Invoice) helped sheet metal fabricating businesses administer their workfrom the initial estimating stage, through manufacture, to the invoicing stage. I left in 2003.

TietoEnatorAfter a short break the start of 2004 saw me joining TietoEnator at their Dunstable, Hertfordshire office as a Systems Developer. The company produced a number of software products for the financial services sector. In November 2004 I relocated to their Sheffield Office and at the start of 2007 I relocated again, this time to their Leeds Office - much closer to home. I left TietoEnator towards the end of 2007.

RADOX Web Page DesignSince September 2006 I had been working for myself part-time designing and maintaining websites. From the end of 2007 I was able to focus on this work whilst at the same time enjoying a more relaxed pace of life. My web site design and services company is called RADOX.

Stuart, I am very impressed with your ability to work with technology and diagnose problems. I am particularly interested in the Tassimo forum. When I was searching for diagrams and photos of the Tassimo's inner workings, your article on the subject was one of the first I encountered. I will be posting a question on the Tassimo forum for you.

Me too! Pam Foley here, not a techno phobe but a Bosch Tassimo user. My machine , a Charmy T 55, has lost it's + and - signs. They both to flash, independently, when in use, the + sign disappeared first, then the - sign.
The - sign, when pressed, does not produce espresso quantity.
I have descaled the machine correctly..Any ideas? Thanks, Pam

Hi Pam. This doesn't sound like a normal state. I think the controlling circuit board is at fault. If the machine is less than 12 months old I suggest you return it and get a replacement. Sorry I can't offer any fixes, Stuart.
