Hello,
When the ECON button is pressed so that the light is turned on, a few things change with the aim of using less fuel. The most common are:
1. The air conditioning system is turned off.
2. If your car is a diesel, the electric heating element (PTC) in the engine's coolant system is turned off. This results in the car taking longer to warm up.
So ECON light on means economy features are turned on.
Hope that helps,
Stuart

Hi Stuart that's brilliant news , I thought I was a bit thick , I only just got the car recently , I have managed to damage bit mirrors in car parks. Then reversed into barrier at a multi storey !!! yesterday I leaned over to get my coat off back seat at petrol station and snapped the fuel cover off !!!! vw want £100.00 so I had to improvise . It's the best car I have had and was unmarked when I got it . I Cannot believe my luck ??? kind regards John
