Firstly I think your website is very useful. It has been referred to many times on vw forums and is a real time saver as my car has suffered from similar problems.

I am about to replace my bonnet catch but like help with the wire connection. I find these connections a real nuisance to undo is there a technique or tool? The bonnet catch connection is in a tight space which doesn't help.

Is it the bonnet cable connection you are worried about? If so, don't worry. The cable is in two parts; a long section from the interior lever and a short section to the latch. They are joined together at a connector mounted just above and behind the driver's side headlight. This connector can be unclipped from the body, opened and the short cable section released. After unbolting the latch and unplugging the switch wiring, you should be able to lift the latch straight out.
