Hi William,

This is a common problem with the VW Golf Mk V.

If you want VW to carry out the repair, you should first contact your local
VW dealer. In my experience both VW dealers and VW HQ's opinion is that this
is due to "wear and tear" and will expect you to foot the bill in full. The
full cost is around £220. However, I would stand your ground and explain how
it is not usual for any car's wiring to snap after just 9 years. They may
then offer to make a contribution towards the cost of the repair.

Either as a stop-gap measure or as a permanent repair depending upon your
abilities, you can reconnect the snapped wires yourself, possibly after
extending them a little to help prevent them snapping again. It's a little
fiddly but possible.

Hope that helps. Let me know how you get on,
Stuart
