Broken wires

Posted by private, Tue 18 Nov 2014 10:20 am
Hello Stuart.
I have just solved an identical problem with my series 5 Golf.
Same symptoms, same broken wires, same location.....same everything.
My fix involved bridging the earth with a section of new wire which gives the length which VW should have included.
If other wires in that loom perish due to stretching, I shall repeat.
All good thanks to you and your information, which has saved me time and $$$$.
Do you have any advice for an 'OIL SENSOR, SEE GARAGE' warning which I am currently enjoying?
Regards,
jc

Hi John,

Thanks for contacting me. Sorry to hear that you've had the same experience
as me with the tailgate wiring. We are not the only ones - Lots of people
have had exactly the same problem. Shame on VW. But it sounds like you have
it under control.

I don't have the high level MFD in my MK 5 and so it cannot display messages
like "OIL SENSOR, SEE GARAGE" but I'm sure it would find another way of
warning me though if I had the same problem. I've not heard of other people
having the same problem and so I'm not sure it is a common problem. My guess
is that it is the problem with the sensor which monitors the soot levels
within the engine oil.

Let me know if you need more info,
Stuart

John again Stuart, with a couple of points you may find er, 'interesting' at best, if not utterly curious.
My 'rattler' (2.0 TDI) purchased new in 2006 has provided a mix of experiences, all in the first two years of ownership, such as...
Seized front door hinge (replaced)
Condensation in rear light (replaced)
Air Bag sensor failure (replaced)
Window Regulator failure (replaced)
Accelerator Unit failure (replaced)
and best of all, the Duel Mass Fly Wheel decided to unravel (replaced)
The car is approaching its ninth birthday, has covered 203,000 kilometres of semi-rural driving and still has the ORIGINAL front rotors and pads, with the rear units only having given in 10,000 k ago!!?!
The original battery was replaced at 198,000 k, having lasted all that time.
Even the wiper rubbers are still OEM.
Despite the rough first years, it is now very stable and a great drive all round. It looks pretty much the same as the day I took delivery, as it is always garaged and cleaned a little but often.
It uses not a drop of oil between changes which I do myself every 10,000 k. Mobil #1 synthetic from new, which I purchase in bulk.
I can't work it out!
Best regards again,
John
