Tailgate not opening on remote.
Posted by private, Wed 21 Oct 2015 2:52 pm
2006 Golf 2.0 TDI Sport 5 Dr.
Tailgate not opening on remote. Holding down the switch for 2 sec it makes a noise and the 2 rear indic lights flash---but no tailgate opens. Seems the remote ok.
Checked ends of wires to/from tailgate-no obvious breaks. Any ideas?

Hi Brian,
I'd recommend you double check the wiring from the car body to the tailgate because this is a common failure point which would explain your car's problem. The wires usually break right in the middle of the flexible rubber conduit and so might not be immediately obvious. Failing that, if the other door locks are locking/unlocking correctly, it sounds like it is the tailgate lock assembly which is faulty.
Hope that helps. Let me know how you get on,
Stuart

Hi Stuart.
Getting no where. Checked the wire again. No obvious breaks. Was passing a scrap yd today and got a locking catch . Fitted. But alas not working. Is there a need to re programme?

Hi Brian,
I don’t think there would be a need to re-programme. I replaced the driver’s door lock assembly a few years back and it was simply unplug the old unit and plug in the new.
I haven’t heard of other people having problems with the hatch lock mechanism and so I don’t think this is a common problem. If it was me, my next check would be whether there is any voltage on the wires at the lock mechanism.
Hope that helps,
Stuart
