Changed settings on Infotainment system

Posted by private, Fri 29 Nov 2019 3:39 pm
Hi Stuart,

I seem to have changed some setting on my Infotainment and now the Infotainment is set as the one on the Electric Golf.

2014 Golf 7 Discovery Pro. So now even my navigation stopped working.

Hi Shafeeq,

Thanks for your email. Sorry I'm a bit late replying.

How exactly does the Infotainment system look like the Electric Golf? I think I remember seeing a setting in my VCDS where you could change the "style" of the display to GTI, perhaps also electric, etc but I don't think it changed the functioning of the unit.

I've copied below the settings from my basic 2013 Composition Media infotainment system (without Nav) in case you find it useful. You may like to compare the coding.

Please let me know how you get on,
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Thank You so much for your reply. Highly appreciated.

I will send you some pics to maybe show you what I am talking about.

Hi Shafeeq,

Thanks for the pics. No I’ve never seen those kind of displays before. It does look like you’ve accidently re-coded your Infotainment system! How did you do this? What tool did you use? I use a tool called VCDS https://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/vwgolfmk5/vwgolfmk5_vagcom.php running on my laptop. When I make changes to a control unit’s coding it records the previous and new coding in a log file. I wonder if your tool has the same thing.

Hi Stuart,

Thank You again,

I used the OBD-Eleven and Yes I re-coded after being warned against doing something if I am not sure of what exactly it would do.

Hi Shafeeq,

Did you manage to get your Golf’s Infotainment system correctly re-coded? If not, I used VCDS on my car today and took the opportunity to compare your Infotainment system’s coding against mine. Attached are my findings.

VCDS might report things differently to your ODB-Eleven so my notes might not make a lot of sense. However, there are 13 bytes in our Infotainment systems’ codings which have different values. All but 3 I think are down to you having a newer car with more features and so I think these differences can be ignored. However 3 bytes (17, 18 & 19) in your coding I think have the wrong values which might explain the weird displays you get. Therefore I have worked out what the correct coding might be for your infotainment system:

02730001FF00000023111201C08A00802F0100D7619081005E

Only 3 bytes have changed. I will leave it up to you whether you use this. As you know, you can make a right mess if you enter the wrong coding. However, if you keep a record of your current coding, you should be able to go back if necessary.

Please let me know how you get on,
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

This is great, thank you so much! I want to get the VCDS Cable as this OBD Eleven is limiting from what I see from the information you get and are to change.

I will let you know how it goes,

Shafeeq
