Well hello Stuart. Nice to meet you albeit by email.
My cruise control is not working on my way 2008 golf mark 5 TDI. I have ordered and received a new brake switch, however, I am having difficulty in locating the original one on my car.Any suggestions please. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello John,

Thank you for your email. Sorry that it has taken me a few days to get back to you.

I never needed to look for the brake light switch on my Mk 5 but looking at my Haynes manual it says "on models from October 2005, the switch is located on the master cylinder. Remove the engine top cover, and where applicable, remove the air inlet trunking to improve access".

I haven't heard of the brake light switch being the cause of the cruise control not working on the Mk 5. Much more common is dirty contacts on the switch on the stalk. See https://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/vwgolfmk5/intermittent_cruise_control

Hope that helps. Please let me know how you get on,
Stuart

Much appreciate your reply Stuart. I have already tried changing the switching on the stalk and this didn’t work. So the next option was to replace the brake light switch, which as you are no doubt aware also councils cruise control when it is on. My problem is locating it. I have disconnected the intercooler pipe and have pretty good access to the brake servo. But I can’t see anything that resembles the brake light switch which I have ordered which was definitely the right one for my car. Hope you might steer me in the right direction. Once again thanks for your corporation.
