GTE maintenance history?
Hello Stuart,
It has been sometime since I have last visited your interesting website. I see you are changing cars more frequently these days in a bid to get "greener" I guess.
Although I do not own a Golf myself now, I am one of those dying enthusiast in DIY basic car mechanics and keeping cars in tip top condition generally. So I was wondering are you planning to track the history and publish the events of your latest car?
Geoff.

Hello Geoff,
Thank you very much for your email. It is very helpful to me to hear what people think of my website and comments such as yours help guide me when deciding what to post.
Yes I sold my Mk 5 VW Golf back in 2016 after 12 years and whilst I loved my Mk 7 Golf, over the last year or so I had become increasingly interested in electric cars. Whilst I think electric cars are the future, not just in environmental terms but also in terms of the driving enjoyment, cost of running, reduced maintenance, etc., they are still relatively expensive and so a plug-in-hybrid was a more sensible choice for me. I have to say, since getting my GTE in May, I love it even more than my Mk 7!
I am tracking the history of my GTE and will publish articles when I have interesting information to share. The GTE's hybrid powertrain is very sophisticated and whilst I could enjoy driving it from day one, I think I am still learning all the finer details. Also, I am fortunate in having hardly any maintenance issues to contend with. When I do, I will write about them too.
Thanks again for your email,
Stuart

Hello Stuart,
Good to "hear" and thanks for your personal response. Your scheduled tally on the running cost of your Golf V was especially useful information. I am now currently looking at an opportunity to test drive a new Golf GTE in the coming months. My partner's company car is overdue a renewal and the Income Tax incentive on the GTE alone is extremely attractive one.
I agree with your views on fully electric vehicles, but I would also love to see the concept of hydrogen driven engines progress if hydrogen production can match or better the overall environment impact of batteries and equal in price.
One last thing, I admire your love of driving; it does not seem to diminish with age unlike mine. If I had the time, which I certainly do not have now, like you, I would consider the advanced test for motoring as a way of improving my situation.
with regards,
Geoff

Hello Geoff,
Thanks again for your email.
You have prompted me to spend a bit of time updating the GTE info at https://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/vw_gte . I was holding off until I gathered more experience on the hybrid powertrain but I realised I did have some other information I could share now. Feel free to provide any feedback you may have or if you have any questions.
I do enjoy driving. I was interested what you said about an advanced driving course. I passed the IAM course back in the late 1990's and whilst I have let standards slip, I do think that many of the skills I learnt then have contributed to my continued enjoyment of driving.
Best Regards,
Stuart
