USA Golfs

Hi, Stuart.

I'm at work so time is short. I did steal a few minutes to look over
your site. I had a couple of Mk 1 Golf diesels ("Rabbits", in USA) so
reading about the refinement of the Mk 5/6's was interesting. The
first one came to me with nearly 200,000 miles for a forgotten very
low price. The second one was a gift from a Professor at the
University where I work. I had been helping her with mantenance. One
day the throttle pedal grommet deteriorated and fell out, so the cable
came loose and she couldn't come off idle. She was so fed up with it
she wanted to give it to me outright. Since University policy forbids
such gifts I decided that $300 was a fair price and she reluctantly
accepted that. The car had only about 40,000 miles. I drove it for
several years with minimal maintenance and eventually sold it for
$1,300. Diesels in Nebraska are difficult in Winter as we have lots
of -15C weather and occasional -30C temps. The owner of a newer
BlueTec Golf told me hers starts fine at -15, but I'd have doubts that
will still be true when it gets old.

petrol and diesel in the state where I live.

Today's price is about $3.80 for diesel and $3.65 for unleaded 87
octane gasoline.

Jonathan
