More electric window problems

Hi Stuart

Thought you may be interested in an update:

I picked the car up last week from the service centre and the front electric windows are actually now worse - i drove away and within a few minutes i went to wind the window up and it shot down. The anti jam sensing seems to be even more sensitive.

So i went back to the garage and saw the service centre manager and shows him and he is going to book the car in again to try to get this sorted out propery. He said they re-programmed the windows but it doesnt seem to have worked.

I have since found out that early Mark 5 FSI engines work better on super unleaded fuel - the fuel filler cap says 98/(95) RON - later models seem to have been adjusted to work better on 95. So looks like i am going to have to use premium fuel to eliminate any pinking noises.

Does your Mark 5 have cruise control? I was working a few weeks ago but now i cant get it to work. Any ideas?

Kind regards

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the update. Hope you get those windows sorted soon.

My Mk V does have cruise control. I love it but it does intermittently knock itself off. Never whilst it's actually controlling the car's speed but I normally have the system turned on (so the cruise light appears in the dash) and then just click the Set button on the stalk when I want it to maintain the current speed. Occasionally, when I go to do this, it doesn't kick in and I look at the dash and the light will have gone out. Fortunately, the light returns after turning the ignition off and on.

I believe it's a problem with the control stalk and replacing this would apparently fix the problem but to be honest, it doesn't happen enough for me to want to do this. When your car goes back to the dealer, why not tell them about the cruise control not working and ask them to check the diagnostics. A fault code should have been recorded and I think they'll immediately know how to fix the problem. A new stalk however might cost around £100 plus however much they charge to fit it. If I ever replace mine, I might have a go fitting it myself.

Hope that helps,
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for your e-mail.

I have looked online and the cruise control does seem to be faulty on quite a lot of peoples cars.

I will mention it to the service centre as i think it was faulty before i even bought the car, and the car comes with a 1 year warranty VW used warranty. I bought the car from Citygate VW in their Colindale branch in North West London.
