Petrol cap

Hi Stuart
I am hoping you may be able to help me. Yesterday I brought a golf Mk5 2.0 GT TDi DSG only to find out today the petrol cap does not work!
The garage are going to look at it on Monday however I cannot find any type of emergency release for the petrol cap. Do you know of one?
Also I noticed tonight that the petrol cap button does not light up, is this normal as if it’s not that may help be pinpoint the problem (I’ve already check the fuse F3).
Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

Sorry to hear about your petrol cap problems.

I have never heard of an emergency release but the release switch should
light up. Yours not doing so suggests some kind of electrical problem there.
Worth checking.

Also, I gather older golfs had some kind of manual release hidden in the
boot behind the interior trim in the region behind the filler. Might be
worth having a look in that area.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on,
Stuart

Thanks for getting back to me.

I think its the petrol cap button. I cant quite unclip the bit of plastic it sits in but I managed to get my finger in there and i cant feel any wire connected to the switch. Maybe it’s fallen off.

I cant find any type of manual release.

It will have to wait for the garage to sort out.

thanks again
