Back doors will not open
Posted by private, Fri 30 Oct 2009 2:20 pm
Hi
I know this is a bit cheeky but I am really desperate...... I have a Golf MkIV & both back doors will not open. Whilst I have read quite a lot about this problem - actuator/solenoid/dodgy solder nobody advises on how to access a very firmly locked shut doors to strip them down to get a good look at the problem.
Don't suppose you have any magic solutions?
Thanks

Hi Jan,
Not cheeky at all to ask but no magic solutions spring to mind.
If the rear doors are physically stuck, then it sounds like it is the
deadlocking facility which has stuck in the locked position. These cannot be
unlocked simply by using the interior door handles or by disconnecting
electrical power. Such a problem might be repaired simply by a little
electrical rewiring or perhaps replacing a control module. Wouldn't expect
his to cost too much really - might even be able to get something second
hand.
Unfortunately, the cost to repair might be much more due to not being able
to get at the lock mechanism inside the door. Removing the inner door panel
is only really possible with the door open. It might be possible to do it or
it might be that the inner door panel has to be cut out and then a
replacement fitted afterwards.
I think your best bet is either letting a VW dealer look at the problem. Who
knows. Maybe they have a secret way of unlocking the deadlocking? Failing
that, a garage with some knowledge of VWs might be able to get the inner
door panels off.
Let me know how you get on,
Stuart
