Nice one Mr Dalby - good info there mate. I knew about being able to lock the car with any of the doors open but the drivers door must be shut. And a few other things.
Not sure if these are mentioned in the manual (all for a Mk V) Windows continue to operate from the drivers seat with the engine switched off provided the key has not been removed from the ignition.
The radio / CD will play for one hour before switching itself off. That's with the engine is switched off.
If the front wipers are in intermittent or automatic, the rear wiper will do one sweep when you engage reverse gear.
None of the 12v sockets work with the ignition switched off (that's a bit of a bugger like).
Cheers

Hi John,

Thanks for your message. Glad to hear that you found the VW Golf Mk V section of my website useful.

The windows continuing to operate after switching off the engine and the rear wiper automatically sweeping when you engage reverse are mentioned in the manual but I don't think the radio continuing to operate for an hour is. Feel free to add this as a comment to the bottom of http://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/vwgolfmk5/vwgolfmk5_secrets.php .

On my 2005 model, the windows can still be operated for up to 10 minutes after switching off the engine even with the key removed so long as the driver and passenger doors have not been opened. Also, in my car, the 12V sockets are permanently live. Maybe VW changed things?

Stuart
