On-board language setting

Hi Stuart,
very helpful piece - thank you! I just recently got my wife a golf FSI 1.6 (2005 model) and I can't change the on-board language settings from German to English (does not have a multifunction steering wheel). Got a clever fix for that?
Also, the discs that came with the car (they're obviously copies) don't play on the car audio system (I've tried to disc-copy and re-burn them but the deck keeps calling an error message). Is it possible to download the disc contents and owners manual?
Thanks,
Chidi

Hi Chidi,
Glad to hear that you found the information on my website useful.
It sounds like your car is fitted with the optional radio navigation system
rather than the standard radio/CD player and it is this which is set to
German rather than English. I don't have this system in my car and so do not
know for sure but I believe the language is determined by the discs used to
configure the system. In your case, German rather than English!
I don't know of anywhere where you can download the discs or the user
manual. However, I believe they can be obtained quite reasonably priced from
a VW dealer. Worth having a word with them.
Hope that helps. Please let me know how you get on,
Stuart
