Seat Cruise Control

Posted by private, Wed 14 May 2014 4:57 pm
Hello
I am having exactly the same problem with my cruise control in my Seat. I found your solution, and tested it. Unfortunately I didn`t get to make it work. If you have the time, could you please add som arrows on the points you cleaned? Actually I could only find 1 place which seemed right. I had exactly the same "symptoms", so I am sure it will fix it, if you could guide me the last step. Best regards from Denmark

Hello Torsten,

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with your car's cruise
control. I have circled in the attached photo the area I cleaned. This is
the contact area for the rotary rocker switch on the top of the stalk which
turns the cruise control system on and off.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how you get on,
Stuart

Hello again. It is exactly the one I cleaned. However, mine is black. Not from dirt of course. I will try one more time

Hello Torsten,

Does the 4th line of the contact area look a bit worn to you? Maybe this is the problem?

Looks like the circuit board is a little different to the one in my car. Rather than the wires being soldered on it looks like yours has a connector. i.e. you can just unplug the connecting wires from the circuit board. Might be worth you cleaning these contacts as well.

Hello Stuart.

You might be right about the 4th line. I couldn't see it until I re-checked the picture I sent.

I will give it another try tomorrow. And yes, Mine has a connector. I used some contact spray on that tooI guess it wont do anything wrong ;-)
But it is strange. My cruise control startet to only work some times. Then I found out that if I put it in the off position, turned the engine off, started the engine again, and put it back to the on position, it would work again. It has been like that for the last 6 months. But the last month the trick hasn't worked.
I appreciate your help, and will let you know when I have tried again tomorrow.

Hello again. Unfortunately it did not help.

I think I will have to get a computer connected to run a test/check to see if it says anything that isn't normal.
Could be an option to try to disconnect the battery for a short while? Or don't you think that could help?

Hello Torsten,

It is always good to check for any logged fault codes. Might not be the switch at all!

I suspect the cruise control system is de-energised every time the ignition is switched off so I don't think disconnecting the battery will help. Then again, worth a try?

Good luck and please keep me posted,
Stuart

Hello again
I just want to tell you, that it ended up with a new arm, which solved the problem. I had the computer connected, but all it could show was that the on/off contact, permantly was in the off position.
Thanks for your support, and have a nice day
: -)
