Rear wiring loom

Hi Stuart, interested to read your blog on the problem with the rear wiring loom on your Mk5 golf.
We are experiencing the exact same problem at the moment (fog lights, wiper, rear boot release not working). We've have had the car in at VW this week; they have quoted £196 all inclusive to fix the loom.
I want to contact VW customer services but before I do, would you be wiling to share your customer reference number so I use that as a reference. They may only pay 50% but that'll still save me nearly £100.
Best Regards,
Ajay

Hi Ajay,
Sorry to hear that your car has the dreaded snapped tailgate wires problem.
I don't think I ever had a reference number from VW Customer Services. I'd
rather not give out my contact details but feel free to refer them to
http://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/vwgolfmk5/tailgate_snapped_wires
Hope you get them to contribute. I don't know how this can be anything other
than a design fault. Please let me know how you get on.

Thanks Stuart, I'll point them to your website; there are lots of other examples of drivers facing this exact problem on the internet, so this shouldn't be news to VW.
For me, the real concern is the danger of having exposed live wires potentially making contact with each other which is a hazard.
I'll let you know how I get on.
