Hi Stuart thanks for the useful info. I have bought a 2004 fsi 1.6 but has no manual. The dead locks seem to be on all the doors apart drivers door when I unlock the car with the key or fob. Do you know how I deactivate them?

Nice to hear that you found my website useful.

Sounds like the driver's door lock mechanism is faulty. It should always operate. There are only two modes for unlocking a Mk 5: driver's door only or all doors. The driver's door lock is usually the first to fail because it is the one used most often. I had the same problem. See http://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/vwgolfmk5/drivers_door_lock_replacement/
