More Broken wires

Hi there,
just read your post re: 2005 VW boot wires fraying / damaged. I have just been diagnosed with the same problem and quoted 2-3 hrs work to solder and repair. I was wondering if this is a job I could do myself!

Hi Will,

Sorry for my delay in replying.

I think you should be able to make a repair yourself. It is a little fiddly reconnecting the broken wires but it isn't a technically difficult job. Of course, the better job you do, the longer the repair is likely to last.

Before I managed to get VW to replace my car's wiring loom I managed to carry out a temporary repair just by replacing the damaged lengths of wire with slightly longer new lengths, twisting the ends of the wires together and wrapping in insulation tape. That was enough to get everything working again and took me less than an hour. For a more permanent solution, I would recommend that you solder the wire connections and try to reseal the rubber conduit as well as possible and so 2-3 hours work doesn't sound unreasonable for a good job.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more queries,
Stuart
