Cleaning of the CC switches

Posted by private, Tue 27 Mar 2018 11:23 am Edit | Delete
I am reading your page on the cleaning of the CC switches, wow sounds great, i was thinking i would maybe have to go the route of steering wheel off, control module off, clock springs off and replace stalk, but the idea of cleaning it sounds great

Just one question how easy is it to get the rear of the stalk? My CC on off switch is playing up , and so too is the wiper speed setting switch on the other stalk, if i put pressure on them they seem to work, so I guess mine need a clean too

So if you can say how to pop the backs off that would be soooo cool

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your query. The back of the stalks just pop off. If you look closely you should be able to see the seam. I think I just pushed my fingernail in there and it popped open. Snaps back easily into position afterwards too. Really easy job.

Let me know how you get on,
Stuart

You sir are a genius

So opened up both stalks (indicator and wiper ) with a thumb nail as you said,

Both PCBs were pretty dirty, cleaned them up with cotton bud and some isopropanol

Bingo CC no switches on and off every time now, also did the wiper timer one too, but not even sure what that one does, but I was always showing as duff on Vagcom, will check it again on Vagcom when I get home

Cheers mate you have saved me money and time, was going to get two new stalks, the thought of taking off steering wheel, air bag, steering wheel module and ring was putting me off doing the job.
The wheel and wheel module have been off before when I did my multi-function steering wheel upgrade a few years back

Thanks again
Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for letting me know. I've not heard of this problem also affecting the rocker switch on the wiper stalk so please keep me updated.

Glad I could help,
Stuart
