Alarm chirping all the time!

Posted by private, Sun 28 Oct 2018 3:36 pm Edit | Delete
Hi

My Mk5 Golf alarm is chirping all the time whilst the battery is connected, it sounds approximately once per second. I have no warning lights on, the engine runs fine and you can drive the car with no problems but the alarm now chirps as I've mentioned. Currently the only way I've found to disable it is to remove the battery negative terminal but even leaving it off for a hour or more doesn't cure things, as soon as you reconnect the battery the chirps start again. Have you come across this issue before? The car is a 2004 2.0 litre Diesel 16v Thank you.

Hi John,

Thanks for your email. Sorry to hear about your Mk 5's alarm problem. Very annoying I'm sure. I've never heard of this problem before. The only thing I can suggest is you get the car's fault codes read. Even though you have no warning light on the dash I'm sure it would tell you what the problem is or at least point you in the right direction.

Sorry I can't be more help, but please let me know how you get on,
Stuart

Hi Stuart.

Thanks for your reply. I'm taking the car to a local auto electrician next week. I'm 90% sure its the alarm itself thats the issue, so I'm hoping the guy can remove it completely without affecting the immobiliser. I'll certainly let you know how I get on.

Regards

Hi Stuart

As promised I thought I'd let you know the outcome of the issues I was having with my Mark V Golf's alarm. I took it to a local Bosch Auto electrician who knew what the fault was straight away. Apparently the internal rechargeable battery in the siren unit was life expired and was causing the siren to chirp in the manner I described. As the car is 14 years old now I suppose that's not a bad life expectancy for a rechargeable battery. The technician suggested the cheapest and easiest solution was to disconnect the unit as a replacement would be very expensive, so thats what I asked him to do.

Regards

John
