snapped tailgate wires

Yep , my sons both have a VW golf Mk5 one 2006 the other 2007. Both have this problem. I repaired top brake light wire in the 2007 one, and did a splice in repair on ALL the cores on the the 2006 as I felt the were going to go soon anyway. The full splice in repair was a messy job and I am not really happy with the finished job, in hindsight a full loom replace would have been better. VW said £120 for the loom, but no recall or no offer of free anything, even though I was going to buy 2. I am really surprised they haven't had to recall them. My 08 Mitsubishi was recalled last week for a suspect wiper motor/linkage. I am also surprised at such a basic design error by VW, the get most things fairly right.

Hi Con,

Thanks for your email. I agree, VW do not appear to consider this problem important enough to help customers get their cars fixed. Glad to hear you've managed to make sufficient repairs yourself.
