Does my car have an alarm?

Interesting stuff on your
site! I must say! I only found out 2day about the windows
winding up and down whilst holding the lock/unlock buttons.
I have one question though, how do I know whether my mk5
golf has an alarm fitted? and is there anyway I can test
it? Thanks in advance!

Hi Mitesh,

Glad to hear you found my website useful.

If your MkV has an alarm you should have a couple of buttons beside the driver's seat underneath the seatbelt which disable 2 elements of the alarm. One is to disable the alarm's interior sensor and the other I think is to disable the alarm's tilt sensor.

To test if your car's alarm works, if you lock it with the remote and then open a door with just the key and wait about 30seconds, the alarm should go off (because you have not disarmed the alarm).

Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on,
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

I will give that a try later. I don't know if it was you in the other forum that basically told me how to wind up and wind down the windows with the remote fob, but that fixed my problem with my rear wiper not working. Maybe some electrical problem somewhere. I also realised when my wiper wasn't working, when I locked the car before, the indicators did not flash, but they flashed when I locked it only.

Your helps been great. I'll get back to you on the alarm stuff.

Take care and have a good day

Hi Mitesh,

Glad to help.

It wasn't me you were talking to about your windows but the problem with your rear wiper I think was because the hatch wasn't shut properly. If the hatch is not closed properly, the rear wiper will not work and when you lock the car with the remote, the alarm will not arm (so no flashing of the indicators) because it senses a door is still open.

I have hear before that sometimes people have to take extra care to shut the hatch properly. Personally I've never found this to be a problem but it sounds like this caused your problems.

Yes. Please do keep me informed,
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Yes the alarm works aswell! Just gave it a shot. So what affect do the buttons have on the driver side door, near the seat belt? I think one's a tow alarm, and one's an interior. Do you know how to use them? Or how they work?

I think you are right, it must have been the hatch, because my mum used it today, and the problems gone - rather than it being a weird electrical fault. Am glad thats solved, I only brought the car a few months ago, and didn't want to fork out on extra costs!

Thanks for your help once again.

Hi Mitesh,

Glad to hear the alarm works. You just press those buttons (one or both) as you leave the car and the little LED in the switch should illuminate. You then need to lock the car with keyfob within 2 minutes (I think) for the respective sensors to be disabled. The sensors will automatically be re-enabled the next time you unlock and lock the car.

Doesn't your car have a manual?

Hi Stuart,

Yes it does have a manual, but I found it a bit confusing on whether they disable/enable the two types of alarms. So the buttons disable the alarm types shown?

Thanks
Mitesh
