hi stuart, i've got a problem with my secondary fan. My air con comes out stone cold as it should but the main fan sounds like a jet plane the a/c fan doesn't spin at all but yet i have air con coming through (mk5 golf gti)

Hi Colin,

This sounds like exactly the same problem I had in my Mk 5. See https://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/vwgolfmk5/vwgolfmk5_wearandtear.php#small_cooling_fan_replaced. Getting the small fan replaced fixed the problem for me.

Yeah I was thinking that. Specialist garages don't seem to have a clue "we'll need to run diagnostics"

I've spent a day googling everything for them. I might be having awesome gti in Manchester do mine £69 p/h rate (2 hours labor) I'm not mechanically minded but I can soon find a fault - I found out about my wings through your website too which was handy - 55 plate i caught it in time this year. Brilliant cars just loads of faults due to the age. 77000 miles nearly too.

I emailed them your link/copied & pasted the write up as a reference too explaining the issue as well as the 50 different forums with the same issue. So hopefully it should come good.

I also have the problem with my rear wiper, it'll wipe my screen as it should, go to normal position to park but raise itself to like a 45 degree angle. Specialist garage thinks it might be the motor apparently? I'm tempted to see if its the arm myself.
